This past weekend, (February 10-11, 2017), I helped co-lead a training for over 70 participants on how to create Sanctuary space during a time of increasing policing and deportations of immigrants. This was a training that was sponsored by the Synod of the Northeast, The Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, The National Sanctuary Movement and the Community of Living Traditions.
At the training, I offered a video resource I developed for use with communities considering and engaging Sanctuary. This is a video which is designed to assist us with diving deep into the biblical story of Ruth 1 which is a story of displacement, famine, death and a return “home.” We discussed at the training how we need to access our biblical stories in this time because they point us to the history of resistance and faithfulness in a time of Empire. One of our deepest resources as people of faith are our sacred scriptures and the ancient stories of God’s people.
I’d love to hear from you if you use this resource! Blessings….
